Sony announce new budget PSP model

The new model is believed to be wifi-less.

Unlike the ill-fated PSP Go, which would only play digital download titles, the PSP E-1000 will feature a UMD drive compatible with all of the PSP’s disc-based games. The new model will not feature Wi-Fi, but gamers will still be able to download digital titles onto the new console by connecting to a PC through Sony’s Media Go service. The new console is reportedly heavier than other PSP models, and will come in a matte black finish.

Air Asia Kills Fireflyz After the Share Swap Deal!!???

The truth behind the share swap?  As per now, Firefly will not fly to KLIA anymore which reduce the competition to Air Asia which will land permanently at LCCT.  Firefly is a cheap low cost flight by MAS targetting no-frills flight and passengers.  This is the target market for Air Asia.  Having the allowance to land at KLIA is an advantage to fireflyz but now it seems that Air Asia has manipulated the tables and fireflyz might be terminated from service.  This will cause fear to 20 000 employees of MAS whilst Air Asia will not be affected at all !!

AirAsia and Malaysian Airlines agree a share swap deal
Posted

AirAsia and its rival Malaysian Airline System (MAS) have agreed a deal to swap shares in a bid to boost growth.

Tune Air, the parent company of AirAsia, will exchange 10% of AirAsia shares for 20.5% of MAS stocks with the state-owned firm Khazanah Nasional.

The two carriers said they will co-operate in areas such as purchasing planes and opening new routes.

MAS will also convert its low-cost FireFly brand to a full-service airline to avoid competition with AirAsia.

"Why do we do this? I think it will help us make a lot of money," said Tony Fernandes, the chief executive of AirAsia.
Mutual benefit?

The deal could help reposition and turn around MAS as a premier long-haul carrier” Juliana Ramli HwangDBS Vickers Research

The two carriers have been competing against each other for past decade. However, their fortunes have taken completely different paths.

While Malaysian Airlines has gone through some tough times, AirAsia has grown robustly to become the biggest low-cost carrier in Asia.

Analysts say the rise of AirAsia has intensified the two carriers' competition and rivalry.

"Malaysian airlines decided that they want to take on AirAsia directly on routes where the later flies," said Siva Govindasamy of Flight Global.

"That effectively meant price competition, which is not good for business."

Mr Govindasamy said the deal will reduce direct competition, helping both airlines to concentrate on their area of specialisation.

His views were echoed by Juliana Ramli of HwangDBS Vickers Research who added "the deal could help reposition and turn around MAS as a premier long-haul carrier."

Google to Acquire Motorola

Larry Page the Google CEO announced that they will acquire Motorola on 15 AUG 2011.  This is due to the success story behind Motorola strong foundation and innovation driven strategy.

However the acquisition will not change Android and Motorola.  Motorola will be under a separate business and still maintained as the licensee of Android.  Android will continue to be an open platform and Google will look forward to work with hardware partners that have contributed to Android's success.

The combination of Google and Motorola will not only supercharge Android, but will also enhance competition and offer consumers accelerating innovation, greater choice, and wonderful user experiences. I am confident that these great experiences will create huge value for shareholders.

I look forward to welcoming Motorolans to our family of Googlers.

UTM is Malaysia's Top-ranked University

Posted on nst.com.my 2011/07/31

KUALA LUMPUR: Universiti Teknologi Malaysia is now the country's highest ranked university, according to two online-ranking systems.

The two -- Webometrics (www.webometrics.info) and 4 International Colleges and Universities (www.4icu.org) -- determine university rankings based on the institute's material contents, references, visibility and scholarships through cyber-based activities.

UTM Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Zaini Ujang said high ranking universities' contents and scholarly works almost always acted as a reference point for others.

"In today's context, where information technology and communication is the preferred method of information gathering, referencing is mostly done via online portals," he said in a statement yesterday.

The positions determined by Webometrics were announced on July 30. Coming behind UTM are Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Malaya (UM) and Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).

UTM is in 419th position in the world ranking.

USM is 428th, UKM at 462nd, UM at 552nd, and UPM at 589th.

According to Webometrics, universities in the United States hogged the top 10 positions with Massachusetts Institute of Technology at the helm.

The list continued with Harvard University in second place, followed by Stanford University, Cornell University, University of California, Berkeley and others, all based in the US.

Australia-based www.4icu.org placed UTM at 280th place against other universities in the world.

Zaini said UTM's success in attaining the top-position in the country was the result of the university's team spirit and hard work.

"The university focuses on our 'high impact and differentiation strategy' to enable the organisation to function smoothly and competitively."

iPhone 4 Vs Samsung Galaxy S2

The technical website below tried to compare between S2 and iphone4 which is totally two different things!!  But what I can say iphone4 gesture and touch interactivity is way much better on S2.  Even the S2 owner says Galaxy S2 still lacks of function.  It is like having a Ferrari but kept in the backyard only?!! Is it good for decoration!??  Now that poor chap is looking for anyone who is interested in buying his S2?!!

In term of battery usage, iphone4 performed way better than S2.  This is benchmarking ipad2 with the Galaxy Tab as well!!??

Well some website is just trying to get free review units especially from Samsung since iphone is available everywhere in the states!!  I hope they give an honest review instead of wanting to get free gadgets only/!!!

iPhone 4 versus Galaxy S 2 (Video)

The Samsung Galaxy S 2 and the iPhone 4 are two of the best smartphones ever released. But which is better? In this video, we do a comparison between these two devices. In terms of pricing, the iPhone 4, here in the US (certainly this price varies around the world) can be had for either $199 or $299 for the 16GB or 32GB models respectively, while the Galaxy S 2 is over $700 for the unlocked version.

Beyond that, the build quality on both devices is quite high, but we give higher marks to the iPhone thanks to its use of metal and glass. The Galaxy S 2's screen is glass, and the rest of the casing is plastic. Despite this, the Galaxy S 2 feels rigid, high-quality, and easy to hold in the hand.
Both have very different displays. The iPhone 4's 3.5" display is 960x640 resolution, providing 326 pixels per inch. The Galaxy S 2's 4.3" display is 800x480 resolution, providing 217 pixels per inch. The lower pixel density on the Galaxy S 2 is made up for with the extreme level of contrast that the Super AMOLED Plus display affords.

In terms of imaging, the iPhone 4 takes fantastic 5MP pictures and crystal clear 720p videos, but the Galaxy S 2 ups the ante with 8MP pictures and full 1080p video capture. Both have front-facing cameras, with the Galaxy S 2 taking photos at 2MP, and the iPhone maxing out at just VGA resolution.

Jumping into software, it's easy to see that Android has far greater versatility than iOS at this point, but the latter is due for an upgrade later this year that might bring vast changes to the OS. In terms of web browser performance, the Galaxy S 2 is far superior to the iPhone, probably thanks to the brawny dual-core Exynos 1.2GHz CPU and 1GB of RAM.

MoCS Definitely A Public Threat!!!

The mandate given to Taib Mahmud clearly shows that he is still capable of leading the state of Sarawak into modernisation and rapid development.  This is clearly shown by PBB winning all 35 seats during the last Sarawak's General Election.  The support of leadership under Taib Mahmud was clearly shown when yesterday more PBB Youth came forward to lodge a police report against MoCS Francis Siah who is now hiding in Sabah!!!??

The investors coming to SCORE also shows keen interest upon knowing that Taib Mahmud is the Chief Minister of Sarawak thus giving them the confidence to invest in Sarawak economy.

Francis Siah should consider all these before launching personal attacks on Taib Mahmud!!??   What will happen to the economy when Taib Mahmud steps down?  Does Francis Siah knows that every political ripples will give impact to the economy?

MoCS a Public Threat — PBB Youth Info Chief

Posted on May 16, 2011, Monday
KUCHING: Movement of Change, Sarawak (MoCS) is a public threat because it undermines the legitimate process of election by demanding that Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud step down in three months.

No one has the right to make such demand, said PBB Youth information chief Abdul Aziz Adenan, as Taib, including leaders of component parties of the state BN, has been given a fresh mandate by the rakyat to continue leading the state. By giving Taib an ultimatum to step down by Aug 13 last Friday, he said MoCS was actually making a mockery of the democracy in the state.

“MoCS has no right to ask the chief minister to vacate his post when the rakyat have decided otherwise.

“This shows that MoCS has no respect at all for the rule of law in the country,” he said when contacted yesterday.

He said while MoCS, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), has a democratic right to express its opinion on any subject, it should know that questioning the mandate of the rakyat was not a wise move.  Touching on the purported ‘recruitment’ drive by Umno members in Sarawak, Abdul Aziz stressed that maintaining the political stability in the state was the duty of all members of Barisan Nasional (BN).

He said he concurred with party vice-president Datuk Daud Abdul Rahman’s statement last Thursday that division among the people was inevitable if Umno were to spread its wings to Sarawak without approval from the state BN.  Aziz said the state would only able to bring development to the rakyat if all members of the coalition respected each other.

“Our aim is to serve the rakyat using the Sarawak BN platform… and since the state BN is able to perform its duty in serving the rakyat, there is no basis for anybody to make any effort to increase PPP membership, or any Semenanjung-based BN parties in Sarawak,” he added.  He also agreed with Daud that PBB was still the backbone party of the state BN by virtue of the strong mandate given by the rakyat in the last election.

The Youth information chief also said he agreed with PBB supreme council member Datuk Dr James Dawos for stressing last Thursday that PBB was a more suitable party for Bumiputeras in Sarawak regardless of their races or religions.

“Datuk Dr James Dawos is bring frank when he said the presence of Umno in Sarawak would not help BN but would only cause problems,” he said, adding “Datuk Dr James Dawos wants to preserve the strength of Sarawak BN with his statement”.

Aziz advised all youths to acknowledge the unwritten understanding between the state BN and Umno as mentioned by PRS president Dato Sri Dr James Jemut Masing, who pointed out that Umno had on many occasions assured Sarawak BN that it would not spread its wings to the state as long as the people’s welfare, especially that of the Bumiputeras, was well taken care of.
