BN Will Rock Satok!!!

Barisan Nasional not taking things for granted, says Abang Johari

Posted on March 27, 2011, Sunday

KUCHING: The state Barisan Nasional (BN) would not take the coming state election lightly even though the opposition pact seems to be weak and in a mess.

Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) deputy president Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg said an election is regarded as a war and therefore all possibilities must be addressed with care. In view of this, he said the BN government would not lower its guard or slacken its preparation for the election.

“We don’t take what they said (as the truth). We just prepare on our own and we don’t care what their issues are. Whether they are confident or not (to form the state government after the election) is their problem,” he told the press yesterday at Kampung No.6 along Jalan Datuk Ajibah Abol here.

Abang Johari was asked to comment whether the opposition was trying to deceive BN by giving an impression that the opposition parties were in a mess resulting from their failure to have a successful negotiation on seat allocation.

Last Friday, Democratic Action party (DAP) state chairman Wong Ho Leng said the alliance had zero chance of forming the next government in Sarawak unless all parties in the alliance agree on the seat allocation.

Abang Johari said if it is true that the opposition pact is now disintegrating, it is something which is not beyond the expectation of state BN leaders.

As a matter of fact, he added, BN had already anticipated the opposition pact not to be able to form a united front.

“During the BN convention (early this month), we said the alliance was chaotic…(and) it seems that is what is happening now.

“However, that is their problem… to us, we would (still) field calibre candidates of high integrity,” said the Housing and Urban Development Minister and Satok incumbent.

When asked whether he would be able to increase his majority in the election, Abang Johari, who won by 2,798 votes in the previous election, said it was entirely up to voters.

On his possible challenger, Ahmad Nazib Johari, who is PKR state youth chief, in the state election, Abang Johari said the young lawyer only shows his face when the election is just around the corner.

“He has been staying in Shah Alam for quite some time…(and) only now he can be seen here,” he said, adding it is not possible to claim that the youth chief has a good relationship with the constituents when he is not residing in Kuching.

Earlier in his speech when officiating at a Friendly Neighbourhood Programme, Abang Johari called upon the rakyat to be united.

He stressed that if there is no unity among the rakyat, it would be difficult to bring in development.

“Our success in bringing in development does not just come to us because we need to plough in a lot of efforts to make it happen.

“If there is no unity among us, maybe things will become stagnant (because it is not easy to carry out any project when the rakyat is not united,” he said.

The Satok incumbent also urged the rakyat not to listen to the opposition who only know how to twist facts to make them look good.

“Tomorrow, they will spin my statement, in fact that is what they are doing,” he said.

Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Datuk Fadillah Yusuf also spoke.

Well said from the PBB Deputy President Datuk Amar Abang Johari.   Although the heat is near Barisan Nasional will not stop to take a break.  Even when the list of potential candidates are still a question mark?

The grassroots have always been loyal and will always be loyal to the President of the Sarawak Barisan Nasional.  They are waiting patiently for the day when those names will be announced.

Meanwhile at the PBB N8 Headquarters, operational meeting were going as planned!!  Flags and posters are ready to be rolled out just waiting for the nomination day to begin the campaign.

PBB head from youth and main branch are busy getting the committee ready for the campaign.  The new headquarter with a very strategic location will be the heart of campaign operation for Satok.  PBB members are welcome to view the activity planned for every village and meet the PBB candidate.  The Prime Minister's name is also inside  one of the activities planned for Satok.  When is the date? Will keep you guys posted!!!

The Information Chief for Satok, commented that the campaign this year will be unique because ICT will be included in the agenda.  They will constantly update the candidate's whereabout for the public to get the chance to meet up with him.  Social networking will be fully utilised during this coming election.  Hopefully this will capture the young voters and also to provide information and future development for Satok under Barisan Nasional.

Abang Johari Brings Tourists to Satok

Satok is becoming a greater tourist attraction.  This is made possible by having a troubleshooter as an assemblyman.   Previously Abang Johari was the industrial minister where high technology industries landed on the shore of Sarawak.

When he was the tourism minister, he became the laughing stock of the cabinet calling him the tourist guide.  However this did not stop him from bringing more tourist to Sarawak.  He introduced Sarawak as a beautiful land of the hornbills with fascinating beaches and friendly faces replaced from the orang utan mascot with the beautiful hornbills and traditional pua kumbu.

He did not stop there.  He transformed the Sungai Sarawak by giving a facelift calling it Kuching Waterfront and now having another extension by the name of Esplanade.  A few wind power turbine could be seen at Esplanade to welcome eco-friendly green technology!!

Satok is now facing another facelift after the New Kubah Ria building being erected.  Sungai Bedil Besar will be the main camp for the Sarawak river taxi, albeit similar to the gondola but uniquely decorated with Sarawakians design.

Apart from creating a tourist hot spot, flood mitigation is also being developed to ensure the safety of the river commuter and also the nearby villagers.  Well done and a big hand to Abang Johari.  His creative thinking has been treating us well in Satok!!  We are glad to have an assemblyman just like you!!!
Sg Bedil Besar to become tourist attraction

by Lim How Pim. Posted on March 11, 2011, Friday

KUCHING: The government is eyeing Sungai Bedil Besar, here and will make the area into a tourist attraction engaging more efforts to enhance the landscape and water quality there.

RIVERINE ATTRACTION: Uggah (second left) with Abang Johari (third left) taking a closer look at a project plan. Also seen are Dr Rahman (left) and Hasidah (second right).

Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Dato Sri Douglas Uggah Embas said the first phase of flood mitigation project there was going on in a ‘satisfactory’ manner and scheduled for completion in August this year.

Valued at RM6 million, the phase involves building a two-kilometre retention wall along the riverbank to prevent erosion.

Inspecting the project site at Kampung Sungai Bedil Besar in Petra Jaya near here yesterday, Uggah said the federal government had approved RM8 million for the second phase of the project to construct an eight-kilometre embankment in preventing flood.

The second phase is expected to commence in June this year. Both projects come under the 10th Malaysia Plan (10MP).

“These projects are not only meant to mitigate flood as eventually, this major river in Sarawak will be improved in terms of quality.

“While the government is working towards this end, the local communities are called to play their role in helping maintain the river’s quality,” he said.

Uggah, who is Betong MP, advised people to take care of the river to ensure cleanliness as their commitment could help attract more visitors to the area.

Asked when the second phase would be completed, he said: “We hope it will be done as soon as possible.”

Among those present were Minister of Housing and Urban Development cum Satok assemblyman Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Abang Openg, Pantai Damai assemblyman Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi and Semaring assemblywoman Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali.

Wastewater Treatment Plant for Sarawak River

‘Wastewater management system ready in 2012’

Borneo Post

by Peter Sibon. Posted on October 24, 2010, Sunday

KUCHING: The RM530 million Phase I of the Kuching City Wastewater Management System is expected to be completed by end of 2012, disclosed its project director Tai Lee Yoon.

ARTIST’S IMPRESSION: The proposed wastewater treatment plant located near Zecon Toll Plaza, Kuching.

He said once completed, the wastewater treatment plant near Zecon Toll Plaza would be able to process both the black and grey water from the city’s main centre.

(Black water refers to waste water from septic tanks while grey water refers to water discharge from kitchens, bathrooms and wash areas).

“It is hoped that after the phase I project is completed, many ‘environmentally dead’ rivers like Sg Padungan, Sg Bintangor and Sg Maong would be rehabilitated and would be able to support marine life,” Tai said at a briefing on Kuching Wastewater Management System at the project site near Zeacon Toll Plaza here yesterday. He said currently the project is “half way completed”.

Tai said once completed, the massive underground tunnel would have a total length of 64.4 km with a depth of between 6 and 27 metres (at the intake point where the waste treatment will be treated at the wastewater treatment plant).

“The whole project will be able to cater for 100, 000 population equivalent (PE) and is designed to last until 2030,” he said, adding that the project needs to be expanded once the population increases in future.

Under Phase I, only the densely populated areas of Kuching city are covered, from Satok, Wisma Saberkas right up to Padungan area. It will include housing areas, commercial centres and hotels.

“While our black water is partially treated in our septic tanks, our grey water is discharged directly to our drains without any treatment. In fact our grey water is more harmful to the rivers than the black water,” stressed Tai.

Tai explained that the conventional septic tank only partially treats black water from the toilets as it primarily serves as a sedimentary tank.

The treatment removes only about 40 per cent of the pollutants.

“It does not remove any nutrient or bacteria which are commonly found in black water,” he said.

Tai said if the Kuching city wastewater treatment system is not undertaken now, Sarawak River would be environmentally dead by 2020.

He stressed that once Phase I is completed, the project would be continued to include other parts of the city.

“We must protect our water resources against pollution. Our rivers must not be polluted because they are the precious source of our drinking water. Rivers are also places for recreation,” added Tai.

The Centralised Sewerage System will collect and treat both black and grey water to standard A, which could be treated for drinking water.

However, the solidified wastes would be treated at the Mambong Waste Management Landfill.

The massive project is undertaken by Nishimatsu of Japan and a local diversified group Hock Seng Lee.

Tai disclosed that each Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) cost between RM5 million to RM10 million per unit. Some 100 Swinburne engineering students also attended the briefing.
