Buy today’s tablet, or avoid sorrows and buy tomorrow’s?

As Samsung’s Galaxy Tab launched yesterday in India, Samsung was launching a 7-inch AMOLED screen and a 10.1-inch prototype tablet at the Flat Panel Displays (FPD) 2010 expo in Japan, giving users a glimpse into Galaxy Tab versions circa 2011!

The old perennial question of when to buy rears its ugly head when it comes to the topic of tablets. 

From a gazillion articles talking up iPad competitors, the only a very few have proven noteworthy in this early stage of the tablet game, especially with Apple already having sold over 7m of its “magical and revolutionary” iPads, with Samsung’s Galaxy Tab one of that handful of standouts. 

Although Samsung has come to take as many bites of the tablet cherry as it can, as early as it can, Samsung has more customers to please than just the CEO, unlike Apple. 

Samsung also showcases its future technologies at trade shows, thus giving us a pretty good guesstiglimpse into the likely future. 

Yes, I just guesstimated up a new word there, but hey, it’s all in a day’s work. 

Anyway. Samsung’s first tablet effort, the Galaxy Tab, is a polished competitor, exhibiting some of the flair and finesse Apple applies to its products while coming in a much smaller form factor. 

Already 7-inch apps have arrived for the device, with more promised to come, but now some are wondering how soon it will be before an AMOLED equipped 7-inch Galaxy Tab successor appears on the marketplace, whether it will cost any more, how Samsung’s 10-inch Galaxy Tab might perform and what it might look like.

The thing is, we knew they were coming as Samsung had already said so, and we all know now that a product’s successor is already being planned once the first version hits store shelves. 

The question is how much a particular item can help to improve your life now, and where you are in the cycle of expected product updates, so you aren’t feeling like a chump having bought “the latest” model only to have it totally superseded by the brand-new, expensive and naturally must-have new model only two months later. 

In theory, Australians won’t be able to buy any new iPad until anytime between March and July next year. Any new Samsung Tab is unlikely to come out any earlier, and might come out even later, although a lot likely depends on how quickly Google gets Android 2.3 and 3.0 out the door. 

After all, Galaxy Tabs only launched into the global marketplace over the last couple of weeks, but if you thought mobile phone evolution was hot, tablet evolution is getting set to run even hotter. 

If you can see that a tablet will improve your life in a meaningful way above and beyond a netbook, notebook or MacBook Air, then by all means investigate them, and if one appeals and it’s in your budget, then buy one, whichever model it is you have chosen. 

Alternatively, satisfying your need for mobility may be better served with a netbook, notebook or MacBook Air, or waiting for a better tablet tomorrow. 

But if you choose to wait for tomorrow, or go with watch closely and choose wisely from new the technologies on offer as unveiled, to best avoid buyer’s remorse and any sorrow!

MIRI, Nov 5 — Sarawakians must reject politicians who perpetrate “anti-rich people” sentiments as this will only deter the state’s quest for greater progress, Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud said. 

 

He said that certain politicians were now trying to inject such ideas and were vocal in criticising successful enterprises in Sarawak in their attempts to win the support of the people.

“There is no such thing as a very thriving economy without businessmen and entrepreneurs,” he said prior performing a ground-breaking ceremony for a four-lane road project linking Taman Tunku and Taman Jelita residential areas, about 12km from here, today.

He said the progress enjoyed by the state would not have come without the support of responsible corporate leaders who were willing to invest in projects with slow returns.

Taib said these businessmen and entrepreneurs had successfully diversified Sarawak’s economy which was once dependent solely on natural resources such as timber, and oil and gas.

The chief minister said big business enterprises had ventured into new range of industries like wide-scale plantations and the service industry, thus spurring the growth of employment and other business opportunities.

He said the Sarawak government’s policy of guiding and encouraging entrepreneurship had always been in tandem with that of the federal government.

The 10th Malaysia Plan and the New Economic Model unveiled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak emphasised on greater involvement of the private sector in the nation’s economy, he added.

“The aim of the government that I lead, like the government that is led by the prime minister, is to always try to develop, to give a better living for the people,” he added.

Sony Playstation or PSP Phone : What we Know so far?

 

While Sony has maintained its official stance towards the leaked PlayStation Phone by declining to either confirm or refute the claims that the PlayStation Phone does exist, by refusing to comment on “rumors and speculations,” a senior Sony executive has dropped some hints, and boy are they going to set your imagination racing towards some happy speculations? Barely a day after Sony announced a $50 price drop in the PSPGo, Engadget is reporting that a new, smartphone version of the PlayStation Portable is on its way.

According to the site, the device is already in the prototyping stage, and features some hefty hardware under its glossy frame. The PlayStation Phone will reportedly include a 1-GHz Qualcomm MSM8655 CPU, 512MB of RAM, 1GB of ROM, and run the Android 3.0 (Gingerbread) OS. Based on the photos Engadget posted, the PlayStation Phone will have a sliding design, like the PSPGo, and use a long multitouch trackpad instead of the PSP’s analog disc. Curiously, while the supposed prototype has a Sony Ericsson logo, it doesn’t seem to have any PlayStation branding. Interestingly, while it will reportedly support microSD cards, Engadget said the PlayStation Phone won’t use Memory Sticks like previous PSP models.

However Engadget has been a very good reputation in the world of tech news, and the authenticity of the news as well as about the source – the source of all this are people who know about a near prjek technology in a particular company, so maybe just a picture of this Sony PlayStation Phone is totally real. Considering the original PlayStation Portable has only a 333MHz CPU and 32MB of memory, the PlayStation Phone’s specs would certainly quality as a “pretty powerful machine” by comparison. Of course, last May, CVG reported that the PSP2 would have a quad-core processor in the form of a scaled-down version of the PlayStation 3’s engine. Until Sony confirms these rumors, all we have is speculation.

Still from the news that we have quoted from the site Engadget, Engadget believes that this is one of the prototypes, and one of them there in the photos posted by Engadget in his story about this rumor. Its source also reported that the codename of this device is “Zeus,”.

In a recent interview on CNN, Sony’s senior vice president of marketing at Sony Computer Entertainment of America Peter Dille seems to have said a few things and proponents of such a device will be happy to learn that they are optimistic. Dille stated that the main reason behind PSP’s failure is the lack of an always on connection. He said, “The PSP is a Wi-Fi device. People are used to having always-connected devices.” Explaining Sony’s vision of the PlayStation Network to be an always accessible entertainment centerpiece, he added, “I don’t think we fully realize that vision with a Wi-Fi device. If it’s not connected then it does sort of limit people.”

The Android-based gaming phone is still a prototype according to the report, so it’s unlikely to arrive before the holidays; we’d bet on a Q1 or Q2 2011 release.

White iPhone 4 Being Cancelled. Possible release for iPhone 5

Oh, white iPhone 4! How long we have waited for you! From a consumer standpoint, all you needed was white paintjob but after the incessant delay, upon delay upon delay we’ve really just started to lose hope.

It was just yesterday when we reported that Apple is delaying the White iPhone 4 to Spring 2011. This came after the July-delay and serves as yet another blow to our fantasies of owning a white version of the popular iPhone 4.

Real Reason: Light Leaks

Cult of Mac reports that the real, actual 100% fo-sho’ reason behind the delay was not thediscolored buttons but actually because of “light leaks”. Explanation below:

When the white iPhone 4 takes a photograph, the semi-translucent glass cases leaks extra light into the camera which absolutely ruins photographs. Cult of Mac’s source said, “You don’t get accurate pictures on the white iPhone because of the color of the glass back. It washes out the pictures”. The source also said that Apple might have to do a complete redesign of the white iPhone 4 to deal with the light leaks.

The issue was discovered after a “last minute test” at a secret facility when the white iPhone 4 was used with a third-party case. Apple, of course, wouldn’t let an imperfect phone out (Antennagate is a separate topic, though).

White iPhone 4 Cancelled?

Besides this, BGR has received information that Apple is cancelling the release of the white iPhone 4 all-together. BGR’s source says that there will be another delay in March which would cause the release of the illusive white colored iOS device to interfere with the release ofiPhone 5 (or iPhone 4S, whatever). Which would mean that the white iPhone 4 might get replaced with a white iPhone 5.

Adobe AIR SDK 2.5 Launches for BlackBerry PlayBook, Android and iOS

When RIM announced their first tablet a few weeks ago, the BlackBerry PlayBook, Flash support was one of the big selling points. To that end, today at the Adobe MAX conference Adobe has launched a set of AIR development tools that work with the tablet’s new operating system, Neutrino by QNX. BlackBerry wasn’t the only platform getting some love, though; now that Apple is cool with third-party SDKs, iOS is included in this Adobe AIR update (though Flash is still presumably blocked), along with the usual Android support AIR has been talking about since February.

For those unfamiliar with Adobe AIR, it’s a development environment that encompasses not only Flash, but Adobe’s Flex, HTML and Ajax. AIR basically lets you create standalone applications using web languages without having to use a browser (something BlackBerry WebWorks still does).

It’s worth reminding that eventually the QNX operating system on the PlayBook will eventually find its way to BlackBerry smartphones, so even if Flash doesn’t make it to handsets before then, at least the new OS will be built from the ground-up with Flash in mind. The PlayBook promises to be a multimedia powerhouse, packing a 7″ 1024 x 600 capacitive touchscreen, and run on dual 1 GHz processors and 1 GB of RAM. Adobe’s SDK will support other tablets as well, so it’s really just a matter of manufacturers including the runtime on their tablets at launch in order to keep the playing field even.

Google seems to have a leg-up over RIM when it comes getting friendly with Adobe, having tested the AIR SDK in a private beta with Android developers for some time, but the Apple has definitely made their bed with Flash. That’s too bad for iPhone and iPad users, but many seem to be comfortable sticking with HTML5 for web development.
