Fix 1013 iTunes Error When Upgrading to iOS 4.2.1

I am sure many people have tried to update to the latest version of iOS 4.2.1 which apple has released and some of iphone 4 users have encountered  some problem while updating to latest ios 4.2.1 version. so if you are one of theme then here is one of the solution for you.

if you are updating your idevice via itune then you still get 1013,1611 error still there is no proper solution available for it and apple has not announced anything for it but you can try this step to avoid error code.

How to Fix Error Code 1013:

Mac OS X:

Step 1 : Go to your “Applications” folder
Step 2 : Go to your “Utilities” folder
Step 3 : Launch “Terminal”
Step 4 : Type “sudo nano /etc/hosts” (without quotes) and hit return
Step 5 : Enter your password
Step 6 : Use the down arrow key to find the “gs.apple.com” entries. Once the cursor is in front, make sure you comment out the line(s) by entering “#” (no quotes) in front of the text.
Step 7 : Save the file by pressing CONTROL+O on the keyboard
Step 8 : Exit the nano editor by pressing CONTROL+X on the keyboard
Step 9 : Restore your iDevice

Windows:
Step 1. Start –> Programs –> Accessories
Step 2. Run Notepad or WordPad
Step 3. Click “Open..” from File menu.
Step 4. Browse to Windows/System32/drivers/etc
Step 5. In “files of type:” select all documents
Step 6. Open “hosts”
Step 7. Delete all line that has “gs.apple.com” or something like that
Step 8. Hit Save
Step 9. Restore your device.

Well most website doesn't say this but you must authorize the desktop and login to iTunes.  What I did is to allow iTunes to connect with my account and after that I start to upgrade the iOS.

For Celcom users, carrier upgrade will be asked upon complete boot up. This will remove the MY before the Celcom!!
Stay tune with us for more tips and how to guide for iphone, ipad and ipod touch.

Jailbreak iOS4.2.1 UNTETHERED using greenpois0n on Window Now!!!

Untethered Jailbreak for Windows is finally here.  It was announced by Redmondpie earlier.  Now iPhone4 with iOS 4.2.1 can start enjoying their holiday and festive season by jailbreaking their iGadgets.

What a lovely angpow this year with the new release by Chronic Dev Team.  It has been the long wait since the last jailbreak for window platform.  What I can say is MARVELOUS!

I am updating my iOS as this thesis is being written. Saw this announcement through rockmelt from twitter account.   Those that wishes to follow me may do so @semicyber on twitter.

For clear methods and guideline to jailbreak just read through from the link provided below or watch the video.  Don't worry jailbreaking is not illegal and you won't want to isolate fun from iPhone4 by jailbreaking??

iOS 4.2.1 Final Version Jailbroken Using Updated Redsn0w 0.9.6b4

The iPhone Dev Team has just released Redsn0w 0.9.6b4 today which brings first proper jailbreak, with working Cydia and MobileSubstrate for all iOS 4.2.1 devices.

For those of you who don’t know, Redsn0w 0.9.6b4 is based on Geohot’s Limera1n bootrom exploit which has already pwned all current iOS devices for life. The only problem is that it is a tethered jailbreak, which means you will have to boot it into a “jailbroken state” on every reboot. This so called tethered or semi-tethered jailbreak condition in Redsn0w 0.9.6b4 however only applies to the new devices like: iPhone 3GS (new bootrom), iPhone 4, iPad, iPod touch 2G (MC Model), iPod touch 3G and the iPod touch 4G.

Old devices like iPhone 3GS (old bootrom), iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G (Non-MC Model) can be jailbroken-untethered right now using this latest version of Redsn0w. So until and unless Comex of Spirit and JailbreakMe fame comes up with another untethered hack for iOS 4.2.1, the jailbreak we get for the newer devices will be tethered (or semi-tethered).
Redsn0w 0.9.6b4
NOTE: Those of you who rely on a carrier unlock MUST STAY AWAY from Redsn0w and iOS 4.2.1.
Follow the step by step instructions posted below to jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 with Redsn0w 0.9.6b4:
Step 1: Download iOS 4.2.1 for your version of iOS device.
Step 2: Update/Restore to iOS 4.2.1 firmware using the IPSW file you just downloaded via iTunes 10.1.
Step 3: Start Redsn0w 0.9.6b4 and point it to iOS 4.2.1 firmware to proceed with the jailbreak.

Redsn0w 0.9.6b4
Step 4: Now select “Install Cydia” and click “Next”. Optionally (if available), you can also select any other option you like.
Redsn0w 0.9.6b4 (1)
Redsn0w 0.9.6b4 (2)
Step 5: Now make sure your device is both OFF and PLUGGED IN to the computer before you click “Next”.
Jailbreak iOS 4.2.1
At this stage you will be presented with a screen where you will have to quickly hold “Power” button and then while holding the “Power” button, you will now have to hold “Home” button too. Now after few seconds release “Power” button but keep holding “Home” button until installation begins.

Step 6: Sit back and enjoy while redsn0w will do all the rest for you. Once done, your iPhone or iPod touch will restart automatically and you will find it jailbroken on the latest iOS 4.2.1 firmware.
For iPhone 4, 3GS (New Bootrom), iPod touch 4G / 3G / 2G, iPad ONLY:
Step 7:
Now from here onwards, whenever you want to do anything related to jailbreak like SSHing into your device, or running Cydia, you must first run your device in the so called “jailbroken state” on every reboot by using “Just boot tethered right now” option in Redsn0w.
Redsn0w (1)
Download iOS 4.2.1 for iPhone 4, 3GS, 3G, iPad, iPod touch
Download Redsn0w 0.9.6b4 for Windows
Download Redsn0w 0.9.6b4 for Mac

Jailbreak iOS 4.1 iPhone 4, 3GS, iPod touch 4G, iPad with GreenPois0n [How to Guide]

By Taimur Asad | October 12th, 2010

Chronic Dev Team has finally released GreenPois0n to the world. You can use it to jailbreak iOS 4.1 on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 4G / 3G and iPad. Support for iPod touch 2G and Apple TV will be added soon.

The following instructions will help you jailbreak iOS 4.1 on iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS using GreenPois0n.

NOTE: If you rely on an unlock, do not update to iOS 4.1 yet as doing so will upgrade your baseband, making it impossible for now to unlock. Either use TinyUmbrella to update to iOS 4.1 without update baseband ( instructions here), or wait for PwnageTool which will help you cook custom firmware files for iOS 4.1 without the upgraded baseband.

Step 1: Download GreenPois0n from the link given below.

Step 2: Connect your iPhone via USB to your computer and click on “Prepare to Jailbreak (DFU)” as seen in the screenshot below.

Step 3: Now follow the following onscreen instructions:

Press and hold the sleep button for 2 seconds

Continue holding sleep; press and hold home for 10 seconds.

Release sleep button; continue holding home for 15 seconds.

Step 4: Your device is now ready for jailbreak. Click on “Jailbreak” to inject the exploit.

Step 5: Your iPhone
iPhone, iPad or iPod touch should now be successfully jailbroken on iOS 4.1 !

Step 6: Now start “Loader” found on the homescreen and install Cydia:

This is it! You are done !

Limera1n and Greenpois0n iPhone Jailbreak Tools Released!

By Bob Bhatnagar -
Published October 13th 2010

The jailbreak community has been active lately. Thanks to a surprise release of the limera1n jailbreak tool from Geohot, the release of Greenpois0n was delayed. Now both hacks use the same unpatchable bootrom exploit and are available to the iOS device-owning public.
In the meantime, the SHAtter exploit initially planned for Greenpois0n has been shelved for future use. Apple will surely fix the bootrom exploit in the next round of iOS hardware, however this time the jailbreak developers have a countermeasure ready for action.

Limera1n will jailbreak firmware 4.0, 4.01, 4.02, and 4.1 running on the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod touch 3G , iPod touch 4G, and the iPad running iOS 3.2.2. Limera1n for Windows can be found at limera1n.com. The software is still a beta release and some users have reported problems. Future releases should support other platforms. The iPhone Dev-Team warns on their blog, "DO NOT USE LIMERA1N IF YOU USE THE ULTRASN0W CARRIER UNLOCK — wait for PwnageTool to incorporate the limera1n exploit. This is so that you can avoid updating your baseband and losing the unlock (possibly forever)."

Greenpois0n is also still under beta development. Right now it works for the iOS devices listed above but only when running iOS 4.1. Both Windows and Linux versions are available at greenpois0n.com. The Chronic Dev Team announced that support for Apple TV and iPod touch 2G jailbreaks are in the works, as well as a Mac version.

A wireless carrier unlock that will allow your locked iPhone to work with any compatible service provider is still under development. In the meantime, make sure to use TinyUmbrella to back up your SHSH files.

More explanation from the iPhone Dev-Team blog: "Because the 'untethered' part of this jailbreak comes from a userland hack from @comex, you should still backup your SHSH hashes for 4.1... This way you can always come back to an untethered, jailbreakable 4.1 on your devices after Apple has closed their 4.1 signing window (they’ll close the 4.1 window once they push out their next firmware version)."

As always, jailbreak tools for any and all iOS devices are released free of charge. There are many fake products that will scam users out of money. Never pay for a jailbreak tool unless you're voluntarily donating to the developers!
